വിഖ്യാത സാഹിത്യകാരനും നൊബേല്‍ ജേതാവുമായ മരിയോ വർഗാസ് യോസ (89)അന്തരിച്ചു. ചെറുത്തുനില്‍പ്പിന്‍റെയും വിപ്ലവത്തിന്‍റെയും മനുഷ്യന്‍റെ വീഴ്ചകളുടെയു കഥ പറഞ്ഞ യോസ സാഹിത്യലോകത്ത് പെറുവിന്‍റെ പേര് അനശ്വരമാക്കിയാണ് വിടവാങ്ങുന്നത്. പെറുവിലെ അരീക്വിപയിൽ 1936 മാർച്ച് 28നു ജനിച്ച യോസയ്‌ക്ക് പെറുവിലും സ്‌പെയിനിലും പൗരത്വമുണ്ട്. 1966ൽ പുറത്തുവന്ന ‘ദ് ടൈം ഓഫ് ദ് ഹീറോ’ എന്ന നോവലിലൂടെയാണു ശ്രദ്ധേയനാകുന്നത്. കുട്ടിക്കാലം ബൊളീവിയയിൽ ചെലവഴിച്ച അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം സ്‌പെയിനിലായിരുന്നു.

ആദ്യകാലത്തു ക്യൂബൻ വിപ്ലവത്തെ ശക്‌തമായി പിന്തുണയ്‌ക്കുകയും ഫിഡെൽ കാസ്‌ട്രോയെ വാഴ്‌ത്തുകയും ചെയ്‌തിരുന്ന യോസ പിന്നീടു ക്യൂബയിലെ സ്വാതന്ത്യ്രമില്ലായ്‌മയ്‌ക്കെതിരെ രംഗത്തെത്തി. കാസ്‌ട്രോയെ തള്ളിപ്പറയുകയും ചെയ്‌തു. രാഷ്‌ട്രീയത്തിലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു തികഞ്ഞ താൽപര്യമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. 1990ല്‍ പെറു പ്രസിഡന്റുതിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിൽ മൽസരിച്ചെങ്കിലും പരാജയപ്പെട്ടു.
വാക്കുകളുടെ തീക്ഷ്ണതയായിരുന്നു യോസയുടെ മുഖമുദ്ര. ഉള്ളുപൊള്ളിക്കുന്ന വാക്കുകള്‍ ലാവപോലെ ആ തൂലികയില്‍ നിന്നും പ്രവഹിച്ചു. പെറുവെന്നല്ല, ലോകം കണ്ട എക്കാലത്തെയും മികച്ച കഥപറച്ചിലുകാരനായി യോസ മാറുന്നതും ആ വാക്കിന്‍റെ കരുത്തിലാണ്.
