ഗുരുവായൂർ ഉൽസവത്തിന് തുടക്കം കുറിച്ച് ആനയോട്ടം നടന്നു. കൊമ്പൻ ബാലു ജേതാവായി. ഗുരുവായൂർ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നാഴികമണി മൂന്നടിച്ചപ്പോൾ പാരമ്പര്യ അവകാശികൾ പാപ്പാൻമാർക്ക് കുടമണികൾ കൈമാറി. പിന്നാലെ, പാപ്പാൻമാർ കിഴക്കേ നടയിൽ നിന്ന് മഞ്ജുളാൽ പരിസരത്തേക്ക് ഓടി. കുടമണികളുമായി ആദ്യം എത്താൻ പാപ്പാന്മാരും മത്സരിച്ചോടി. കൊമ്പൻമാരായ ചെന്താമരാക്ഷനും ബാലുവും ദേവദാസും പാപ്പാന്മാരുടെ വരവ് കാത്തു നിൽക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. കുടമണികൾ അണിയിച്ചശേഷം ഓട്ടം തുടങ്ങി. ആദ്യം എത്തിയത് കൊമ്പൻ ബാലു. ആദ്യമായാണ് ജേതാവാകുന്നത്. പത്ത് ആനകളിൽ നിന്ന് നറുക്കിട്ടെടുത്താണ് ആനകളെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തത്. ഗുരുവായൂരിൽ ഇനി പത്തു ദിവസം ഉൽസവ ആഘോഷമാണ്.

The Guruvayur festival commenced with the traditional elephant race, where Komban Balu emerged as the winner. As the temple clock struck three, hereditary rights holders handed over the ceremonial "Kudamani" to the mahouts, who then raced from the eastern gate to the Manjulal area. The elephants, including Chenthamarakshan, Balu, and Devadas, waited eagerly for their mahouts. After adorning the elephants with Kudamani, the race began, marking Balu’s first victory. Ten elephants were selected through a lottery, and the festival celebrations will continue for the next ten days.
