കാൻസർ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയയിൽ റെക്കോഡിട്ട് എറണാകുളം ജനറൽ ആശുപത്രി. ഇതുവരെ 1,700ലധികം വൻകുടൽ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയകൾ പൂർത്തിയാക്കി. ഓപ്പൺ സർജറിയെക്കാൾ കീഹോൾ സർജറി ചെയ്യാനാണ് മുൻഗണന നൽകുന്നതെന്ന് ആശുപത്രി സൂപ്രണ്ട് പറയുന്നു. 

ഉദരം, വൻകുടൽ, ഹെർണിയ, പാൻക്രിയാസ്, അന്നനാളം തുടങ്ങിയ ഭാഗങ്ങളിലെ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയകളാണ് കാൻസർ ചികിത്സയിൽ കൂടുതലായി നടന്നത്. ഇതിൽ 1300 ലാപ്രോസ്കോപ്പിക് കീഹോൾ സർജറിയാണ്. അന്നനാളം, ഉദരം എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ മാത്രം 600 കീഹോൾ സർജറി നടന്നു. രോഗിയിൽ ഓപ്പൺ സർജറിയെക്കാൾ കീഹോൾ സർജറി ചെയ്യാനാണ് മുൻഗണന. 

ഒരുമാസം ബൈപ്പാസ് ഉൾപ്പെടെ 600 ശസ്ത്രക്രിയകൾ ആശുപത്രിയിൽ നടക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. എല്ലാ വിഭാഗങ്ങളിലുമായി പ്രതിദിനം 3000 രോഗികൾ ചികിത്സിക്കായി എത്തുന്നുണ്ടെന്നാണ് കണക്ക്. 125 ഡോക്ടർമാരുള്ള ആശുപത്രിയിൽ 17 പേർ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ വിദഗ്ധരാണ്.
